U-16 NI Schools Cup Match Report

Mr Brogan 11th November 2015

Round 2

CHGS 10 v Methodist College Belfast 1

The team got the campaign underway with a resounding win, over a good opposition at the Showgrounds. It only took 5 minutes for CHGS to take the lead, before adding another just minutes later. Methodist challenged well in mid-field, however Jamie Houston and Thomas Campbell were on fine form, combining well together to create a number of opportunities for CHGS.

CHGS scored the third with just under 20 minutes on the clock, before Methodist grabbed a goal back after a great piece of individual skill by the opposition striker. After this the defence closed up shop, with excellent displays from Jack Shaw, Callum Ross, Jack Mc Murray, David Mc Cord and Andrew Kyle.

CHGS settled back into their rhythm quickly and returned to controlling the game with Leon Carley, Tyler Barr and David Leetch tormenting the defence throughout, with their speed and agility on the wings.

Methodist had the chance to score a consolation goal from a close range free-kick, however Josh Mark pulled off an outstanding save to tip the ball from the top corner of the goals. CHGS went on to win the game convincingly with a number of players getting on the score sheet. Sam Millar had a great game up front; working relentlessly for the team throughout, however, a special mention must go to Sam Armstrong who haunted the Methodist defence throughout the entire game, scoring 5 goals and turning supplier for two other assists.

A great start to the cup, however harder challenges will no doubt present themselves in the next round. The draw will be made later this month which will decide the next fixture for the team.
