CHGS joined together with Kells & Connor Primary School, on Thursday 2nd June, to participate in a STEM day for their P7 pupils. The pupils are currently learning about space, in particular with the focus being on British astronaut, Tim Peake. The Kells& Connor pupils wanted to understand how Tim Peake would operate with lights in space, and what Technology would be involved for him to carry out his day-to-day tasks in the space station.

Mr Brogan, along with 10 year 8 mentors, showed the pupils how they used software in school to develop and create circuits for electronic products. The P7 pupils then had the opportunity to use the software and learn about the specific electronic components, before manufacturing their own space light.

The pupils were also treated to sports activities at lunch-time, which gave them the opportunity to see the activities which may be used in space, to help the astronauts exercise.

Mr Brogan would like to thank Mr Mc Clelland, principal of Kells & Connor, for helping to organise the event. A special thanks must be said for Mr Nicholls’s work in setting up and carrying out the sports activities with the pupils and for the year 8 mentors, who did a fantastic job in supporting the P7 pupils throughout the day.
