Spanish

Studying Spanish at Cambridge House Grammar School means the chance to work with teachers who are language specialists and who have studied or worked in Spain for an extended period of time.
We are lucky to have Spanish Assistant who works primarily with A-Level and GCSE students. The assistant visits KS3 classes where possible to deliver cultural and seasonal activities.  We regularly organise opportunities for students to practise their spoken Spanish.  We have had very successful trips and exchanges to Paris and Bundoran, County Donegal through the Languages and Adventure Programme.
We have opportunities for AS Level students to work with our Modern Language staff through our work experience programme of team-teaching.  Years 13 and 14 are able to attend  Spanish immersion days at The Queens’ University of Belfast.  We encourage A Level students to extend and support their own learning by providing support and extension materials currently available on the Kerboodle package which pupils can access from home.

CCEA GCSE Leisure & Tourism with OLA Spanish (Level 1) - INTRODUCED FROM SEPTEMBER 2011

'The leisure and tourism industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. It covers a whole spectrum of activities, from visiting a tourist attraction and going to a health club to eating in a restaurant or travelling abroad.CCEA microsite, 2011.

Studying Leisure and Tourism is intended to give our students a general understanding of the leisure and tourism industries both here and in some cases abroad. It may include site visits to other companies, such as Tourist Information offices, the Braid (Ballymena), Travel Agencies.
The course consists of four Units of study, taken over two years, with 40% of marks available for the final exam, the remaining 60% of the marks awarded equally over three Controlled Assessment assignments.

The Units studied are as follows:
Unit 1: Introduction to the Leisure and Tourism industry;
Unit 2: Customer Service and the Leisure and Tourism industry;
Unit 3: Marketing in the Leisure and Tourism industry;
Unit 4: Leisure and Tourism destinations

As a natural partner to the Leisure and Tourism GCSE, we are proposing to run Spanish to OCA Level 1. This is a nationally recognised qualification focussing on the four linguistic skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The speaking test is examined in school, with the remaining units examined online.
