Sociology

Sociology is a popular subject at GCSE and A/S A/2 level.  It is delivered by Mrs Patterson and Mrs Gannon.
Sociologists believe that there is no such thing as human nature, they believe that the way be think, behave and feel is shaped by the process of socialisation.  This provides us with language, gives us our values and beliefs, establishes our identity, and so turns us into members of society.
The study of Sociology encourages young people to develop knowledge and understanding of the society in which they live. It involves discussion, debate and investigation into the main features of our society. Students will develop a greater awareness of current affairs and become more informed about Government policies.
It is closely related to Psychology as this has a great influence on human behaviour in all aspects of society.
