HOME ECONOMICS
Key Stage 3:
Home Economics has an important contribution to make to the Key Stage 3 Curriculum. Teaching is organised to incorporate active learning wherever feasible, with the aim of pupils gaining personal satisfaction and enjoyment. The active participation of pupils encourages them to think critically, make informed choices and manage resources within the context of the home and family.

Year 9 Smoothies

GCSE Home Economics:
This course encourages students to adopt a critical and analytical approach to decision-making and problem solving in relation to the areas of Diet and Health, and Consumer Awareness. The course also provides a foundation for further study of Home Economics and other subject related courses.
Students will study:
What’s in food – what’s on the label - ages and stages – dietary disorders – special diets – keeping food safe – the facts behind the issues – being an effective consumer – what influences shoppers – money matters.

GCE AS/A2 Home Economics
GCE Home Economics focuses on the health and well-being of people in their everyday lives.
The AS course covers Nutrition for Optimal Health and Priority Health Issues. The A2 course focuses on Consumer Issues and a Research based assignment.

The GCE Course provides a solid foundation for higher education course in Home Economics, other related subjects and for a range of careers in areas such as dietetics, hospitality, leisure, teaching, food management and supply, food technology and consumerism.
