GENERAL SCIENCE KEY STAGE 3

In science, students are encouraged to question the world around them and the influence of science in it.

20% of the KS3 curriculum in Years 8 and 9 is devoted to science. It is taught as general science by one class teacher with units based on biology, physics and chemistry. Assessment occurs through class and homework, end of topic and term tests and exams. Results of these assessments are recorded and pupil progress is closely monitored through the Key Stage.

Science is learnt through many different types of activity including investigations carried out by students, research and teacher demonstration. There are also opportunities to have visiting speakers and to take part in activities outside the classroom, in competitions and the events connected with Science Week.
