FIREWORK SAFETY

 

Each year external agencies issueFirework Health and Safety information to schools:

 

  • Department of Health, Social Services and PublicSafety

  • Department of Justice

  • Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service

 

Each year Cambridge House Grammar School advisesand guides students via Formal School Assemblies and our Form Time Programme

 

What you need to know

 

ThisHealth and SafetyInformation is designed to help you and your familyenjoy fireworks safety andavoid becoming a firework injury statistic.

 

  • When buying fireworks ensure thatthey comply with BS 7114 or the European equivalent

  • Fireworks should be clearlymarked for Indoor, Garden or Display

  • Keep fireworks in a sealed box ortin

  • Never put them in your pocket

  • Use them one at a time and replacethe lid immediately

  • Read the instructions carefully

  • Light at arm’s length

  • Stand well back

  • Never return to a firework afterit has been lit – it could explode in your face

  • Keep all pets and animals indoors

  • Never throw fireworks

  • Do not set off fireworks after11pm

  • Never give sparkers to youngchildren under 5 years old

  • Always wear gloves with sparklers

  • Hold them well away from yourbody

  • Never wave them near anyone

  • When sparklers have finished, putthem into a bucket of cold water right away

  •  

  • Category 1 fireworks must not besold to children under 16

  • Category 2 fireworks must not besold to persons under 18

  • Category 3 fireworks must not besold to persons under 18

  • Fireworks cannot be bought in Northern Irelandwithout a licence (except sparklers and indoor fireworks)

  • A wide range of fireworks areillegal
