CAMBRIDGE HOUSE GRAMMAR SCHOOL DRAMA AND PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT The Drama Department at Cambridge House Grammar School is highly successful, both in public examinations and in extra-curricular endeavours. We have a strong tradition of Drama in the school and are very proud of the achievements of our students. All Key Stage 3 students study 2 periods of Drama every week. At present we offer both GCSE Drama and more recently GCSE Performing Arts. We are delighted with the 100% A* A passes achieved by our first cohort in Performing Arts last year. We also offer Drama and Theatre Studies at A Level.
We have many notable achievements over the last year. Over 70 students were involved in our fabulous production of, ‘The Wizard of Oz’. We are current Northern Ireland Champions for Rock Challenge with our superb dance drama, ‘Obsessions’. Our Junior Drama Club provides entertainment for special in-house assemblies and services. We also work very closely with the Music Department for our annual talent shows, School Stars competitions, festival entries and concerts. Through SEP we have developed a close link with St Benedict’s College and students from Year 10 have been working on a joint Drama and Media project. This has been a very exciting opportunity for our young people so far and we look forward to continuing with the project and strengthening the relationship in the coming months.

SEP Drama The SEP Drama project has recently got underway. Year 10 students from Cambridge House Grammar School and St Benedict’s College, Randalstown met for the first time on Wednesday 9th February in Cambridge House GS. Students worked in cross school groups to form their own production companies. They were set the challenge of naming their company and creating a logo and a mission statement. Their creative ideas were evident in the names chosen for their production companies such as; ‘Aspire’, ‘Fusion’, ‘Harmony’ and ‘United Diversity’. Roles and responsibilities were agreed and students presented their ideas to each other. Companies were then commissioned to create a short promotional film which would present Northern Ireland as a vibrant, exciting and interesting place to visit. Groups undertook initial brain-storming and planning and look forward to the next session which will be held in St Benedict’s on 16th March. This will give students the opportunity to further develop their ideas for their productions. D O'Kane
