CHILD DEVELOPMENT Students who select GCSE Child Development will study the physical, social, intellectual and emotional development of young children from conception to the age of five years. The course provides a basis for further study of Home Economics and other related qualifications. Students will study: Parenthood and responsibilities – pregnancy – healthy diet and lifestyle in pregnancy – birth – the newborn baby – physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of the child up to five years old – childcare provision – sources of support available – safety, first aid and childhood illnesses – choosing clothes and shoes for young children- weaning and dietary needs. The course involves the completion of two examinations and two controlled assessment tasks.
