CHGS CAREERS DEPARTMENT (with Young Enterprise)
Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is central to the school curriculum.  The aim of our careers programme is to ensure that students:

  1. understand themselves ie their qualities and skills
  2. have a knowledge of the opportunities available to them
  3. become effective career decisions makers.

CEIAG is delivered by both discrete and integrated methods.  Students in Key Stages 3 and 4 study Employability as part of Learning for Life and Work.  The focus on Personal Career Planning (PCP) begins in Year 10 in preparation for GCSE Subject Choices.
At Key Stage 5 students have timetabled Careers classes where they have opportunity to prepare university applications, have practice interviews/presentations and consider issues relating to student finance.
All Year 13 students undertake five days compulsory work placement, in a career area which interests them.
Post A Level study the majority of our students enter higher education.  The Queen’s University of Belfast and the University of Ulster are the most popular destinations.  A number choose to attend universities in England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
