Business Studies Department

Business Studies is a dynamic course which prepares students for the challenges of the 21st Century by introducing them to the world of business. Whether your aim is to pursue an academic career, train for a profession or become an entrepreneur the necessary knowledge and skills will be provided.

We offer the following qualifications:

Ø      GCE A Level Business Studies

Ø      GCE A Level Accounting

What can I do with a qualification in Business Studies?
Business Studies is a totally relevant to the world in which we live.  Everyone is involved with business as an owner, employee or a customer.  Therefore, a knowledge of Business Studies makes a positive contribution to all career paths. More specifically it offers an excellent foundation for those wishing to pursue careers in Accounting, Actuary, Banking and Finance, Business Journalism, Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Management and Marketing.

Department Aims

Ø      To maintain and/or stimulate pupil curiosity, interest and enjoyment in Business Studies.

Ø      To enable pupils to be familiar with a body of business and economic theories, principles, skills and vocabulary.

Ø      To enable pupils to develop a range of important personal qualities such as politeness, perseverance, initiative and independence.

Ø      To develop an awareness in pupils of the implications of business and industry for the individual, the community and the environment.

Ø      To develop the ability of pupils to make rational, reasoned decisions and support these by informed argument.

GCSE Business Studies
GCSE Business Studies is a dynamic, interesting and challenging course.  It is completely relevant to the world in which we live today, providing students with realistic learning experiences which they will carry on into life.
GCSE Business Studies makes a positive contribution to developing young people as individuals and participants in society, the economy and the environment.  During the course pupils will also have the opportunity to visit local businesses and observe entrepreneurship in practice. The subject gives the pupils the opportunity to develop their ICT skills in a business context.

A Level Business Studies
Business Studies provides students with a unique insight into the world of work.  Through its study, students discover how businesses operate and learn about their key elements and essential business functions.  This knowledge, and the holistic understanding that develops, is invaluable to those students who are approaching university or the workplace.

Students are presented with an unseen case study and must produce a business report in response to it. Through their business report, students must:

·         analyse problems

·         evaluate evidence

·         make proposals for solutions

·         justify reasons for their proposal.
