Year 13

SIXTH FORM ADMISSIONS CRITERIA (for admission into Sixth Form September 2011)
The day to day work associated with entry is delegated to the Principal working with members of the Senior Leadership Team and Admissions Sub-committee.  Decisions at any stage will be taken on the basis of relevant information available at that time.  These decisions will be reported to the full Board.
The following criteria must all be met before a student will be considered for admission to Sixth Form at Cambridge House Grammar School:

1.        Students must be resident in Northern Ireland at the time of application

2.        A minimum of 6 GCSE passes  is required at least 4 of which must be at Grade B or above

3.        A minimum of 96% attendance throughout Years 11 and 12 (medical circumstances will be accepted provided these are fully documented by letters to the Principal at the time of the circumstance supplemented by verified medical correspondence).  The Principal reserves the right to make the final decision based on the documented evidence available to her at the time.

4.        Clear record of behaviour across Years 11 and 12  (pupils who have been suspended or on Principal/Vice Principal report will not be admitted)

In the event of there being more remaining places, the following criteria will be applied in turn:

5.        students who are were enrolled in Cambridge House Grammar School in the previous academic year

6.        Students will all be ranked based on scores (as above)  and admitted in rank order starting at the highest score if there any remaining places: A* 4 points, A  3 points, B 2 points, C 1 points

All students must study 3 full A Levels in Years 13 and 14 unless they have achieved 7 GCSE grade passes at A*/A/B – if 7 top grades have been achieved, then we will be able to facilitate 4 full A levels if required by Universities/career requirement.

ADDENDUM:
The Department of Education may, on request, increase the number of pupils that the school can admit to its Year 13.  Places that become available in this way shall be allocated to pupils who meet the basic eligibility criteria for sixth form study (as above) and shall be allocated in the order determined by the criteria to be applied in the order set down.

1.        pupils who have most recently completed Year 12 in Cambridge House Grammar School

2.        pupils from other schools where admission to an extra place at Cambridge House Grammar School has been agreed by the Department of Education.

*Parents should note how the Department of Education will, in response to a school’s request, increase the school’s enrolment number in order to allow an extra post-16 pupil to enrol.  DE will first check whether there is another school or schools of a type suitable for that pupil within an hour’s journey of where the pupil lives.  If there is, DE will then check whether this other school or schools with places available may provide all of the post-16 courses that the pupil wishes to pursue.  If these checks find that no other suitable school may provide all of the post-16 courses that the pupil wishes to pursue – then DE will agree a school’s request for an extra place.

What is a school of a type that is suitable for a pupil?  To determine this, DE first considers all schools to be one of 4 types (i) denomination (ii) non-denominational (iii) integrated and (iv) Irish Medium.   A school requesting an extra place for a post-16 pupil will belong to one of these 4 types and DE will consider any other school or school from this same type as suitable for the pupil.  DE will also consider as suitable for the pupil any school from the same type as the type of school that the child attended in Year 12.

The Admissions Criteria will be monitored by SLT and Board of Governors, evaluated against performance outcomes and reviewed annually as appropriate.

Review Date                                           Reviewed in May 2011 in the light of letter from DE on 5 May 2011 for schools likely to be oversubscribed

All students applying into Sixth Form are allocated a CEIAG/Performance Review Interview on the day of release of GCSE results to determine and agree the most appropriate career path for each student.

Year 14

CHGS students are allocated a CEIAG/Performance Review Interview on the day of release of AS results.  This interview will agree the most appropriate career path for each individual CHGS student.
